The House
Not a hotel you compare. A house you remember.
Haile began as a house.
Built in Arusha in the 1950s, in the quiet, considered manner of the highlands, it was a home shaped by another era. Generous rooms, deep skirting and the permanence of panelled walls.
Decades later, we chose to build upon it.
The original house has been carefully restored as Haile, an intimate eleven room Boutique Hotel. Boiserie mouldings and travertine sit alongside collected furniture, warm fabrics, old maps, books and objects that feel as though they might have accumulated here over generations.
The result is deliberately difficult to place in time. Part Arusha residence, part traveller’s retreat, Haile carries echoes of explorers, railway journeys, trading routes and the grand highland homes that shaped this corner of East Africa, without trying to recreate them.
At its heart, it remains a house.
A place with eleven rooms, old trees in the garden, a veranda for long meals, quiet corners for coffee, and the feeling that someone has thought carefully about what should be here and, just as importantly, what should not.
This is Haile.
The lobby holds a set of curved sofas in burnt orange. It is the loudest thing in the building, and everything else stays quiet around it. That is the whole idea of the place.
Accommodation
Every room is finished with the same considered attention. What changes is the sense of space, the view from your private balcony, and how long you might choose to linger in the bath.

It may have become a hotel.
At its heart, it remains a house.
Dining & Coffee
The old trade routes brought the fragrance of the Swahili coast into the highlands. Our kitchen draws from that heritage, while our coffee belongs firmly to Arusha, grown on the slopes just an hour up the road from Haile!

Restaurant
Open fire, highland produce and the spice of the coast. Breakfast for guests, unhurried lunches and afternoon coffee. Dinner, by reservation, as evening settles over the place.

Coffee House
Our Arabica is roasted exclusively for Haile, then blended in house across light, medium and dark roasts. Our pastries follow the same philosophy. Made by hand, guided by instinct and never quite ordinary.

Arrival & the garden
With just eleven rooms, we know who we are expecting. From an airport transfer to a familiar welcome at the door, arriving at Haile feels less like checking in and more like coming to stay.
Make yourself at home. Nightly rates beginning at USD 295.
